Today the project was almost at a fully working level. But a few issues have cropped up.
First of all we have found for the best effect, we should probably use the medium-small sized petri dishes as the Ferrofluid is then able to stay close to the magnetic area instead of getting propelled to the edge of the dish. Despite the wiring and positioning of the motors and relays in the housing being pretty perfect, annoyingly the ‘brand new’ batteries had no power (despite being ‘9v’) NOTE: Never go to Poundland for batteries...
Also the window cleaner and water solution doesn't seem to be working as well as many have claimed online. It maybe because we are trying to test with small amounts of the Ferrofluid but still it manages to - not stain - but disperse a little making the water brown slightly.
Frustrating and disappointing giving the amount of time, money and effort that has gone into this so far! But as said - these issues may be purely because of the limited amount of Ferrofluid we are using to test as we have a limited supply. The housing is complete and the wiring etc all in place, plus code that is working. Just the overall effect of the project in testing isn’t as extravagant as hoped, now at least we still have time to iron things out.
