Today me and Jay started working on making the project housing out of Acrylic. The ‘score & snap’ method wasn’t as easy as everyone makes out with 3mm Acrylic, but as we have not access to the Labs during easter we have to make do! The edges aren’t too bad, nothing a bit of TLC with some sand paper won’t fix. The housing is now about 35% smaller and now looks like a sleek cube!
As for the motor wheel and magnets - using the lids of sports drinks has turned out perfectly! Due to a slight camber in the lid the magnets can hold each other in place on either side of the lid edge. So when rotated the magnet stays perfectly in position even at full rotation speed.
The projects code is working perfectly with 4 relays so no alterations are needed for that, it is now just an assembly job. Tomorrow we will be gluing the structure together hopefully and then do a trial run without the Ferrofluid. Watch this space.
