In this module I will be working with my Audio & Visual production skills to manifest visulisations of information/data. Meaning I will be working around visualising data and creating some cool and interesting projects.
Encouraged to go crazy and re-invent, this should be a really great module with a lot of promise. Already I get the impression that Edward R, Tufte really knows his stuff when it comes to data visulisation so I will have to read up on his book/journals/papers.
Other notable people include E.J.Marey (a French scientist and chronophotographer), Otto Neurath who was known for creating Isotype (a way to represent sets of data via easily interpretable icons) and Willem Einthoven who created the first practical Electrocardiography (ECG/EKG). Obviously there are others, but these are the ones I managed to note down! These people have had an impact on the visulisation of data through various means from best practice to physical inventions (such as Einthoven's ECG).
Pictured above is the Flying pelican captured by Marey around 1882. And a sample Isotype from Neurath's Basic by Isotype, 1937.
So... my first few tasks are to start looking for data, start thinking about what I can create to collect data, read up on Edward R, Tufte and start (done) a Daydum project (which is a bit confusing at first - but I soon got the hang of it and really quite like it! ...see the shot above!).
Must admit, going to like researching Isotype the most I think...
