My project will be a teaser for what I am planning to do for my final project in third year. At the moment Augmented Reality features in a big part of my brain.
My initial idea for my final project was to incorporate Augmented Reality into Digital Signage. For those who don't know digital signage is a form of electronic display used to convey information such as advertising or general information. Many companies are delving into this growing market, which is mainly B2B based and last year the US digital signage market revenue grew by over 30%. But this concept isn't grown breaking and has already been done with at least one advertising agency just specialising in AR advertising.
So that idea has been put on the back burner and I have now come up with a new idea that treats social spaces almost like a living organism.
I hope to treat the social spaces like a living organism. Places with more activity are more significant when viewed through AR. This could prove useful when looking for a social environment (eg: club/bar) that is busy and popular, or even to find a place that is quiet and without excessive amounts of people around.
The user would see an compiled animation that represents how busy areas are in their immediate environment, whether it be in a park or in a busy city centre. Users locations inside a space could be monitored along with their movements, so that almost a beehive like environment could be virtually created. Hence why I decided to call the project 'Hive'
So depending on how busy an area is, the representation will move and provide a 'sense of life' in that area like it is living. I will most probably use movement and colour to create a sense of life.
In a way swam networking has a influence to this project as it is about concentrated groups of individuals exchanging data, in this case their position, but if taken further the concept could include data interaction for example.
It could also be used as a tool to communicate information whether it is just additional general info or interactive game promoting a particular service or product.
So for my final 210 project I will be doing a 'Lite' version of this Endeavour.
My motivation for this project has stemmed from numerous sources. Firstly my desire to work and create content with Augmented Reality and secondly I always have been keen to do things that are new, and push technology to set new foundations.
I want to bring AR social interactions together to create a much more appealing and interactive social medium. Current AR applications can show a users social network accounts/activity about their person but my idea is to enable the user to identify nearby social activity by merely pointing the device around you to establish in what direction more/or less activity is situated.

AR art instillations and concepts developed me Clara Boj and Diego Diaz, notable examples such as the wifi visualizer ‘Observatorio' (Observatory) and the 'artvertiser' which replaces existing advertising with pieces of art.
