Today we started to experiment with MaxMSP which is a program useful for people like me who are not code people.
We started to work with a basic function to print (on screen) a pre defined bit of text, then worked with a function to display text defined in real time (via input box).
Audio was next on the agenda and it was amazing at how well this program could manipulate audio in realtime with seemingly no buffering required!
I then found out it could also do this with video in real time too, creating some effects that may take you a little bit of time to wait to render if it were final cut etc... I'm not saying it is a video editor or anything, but it just went to show that this software can tackle pretty much anything.
It started to make me think... My final project will be around AR for emergency services. Linking with my dissertation looking to find the best way to design an interface for use by emergency personnel. So what I could do would be to use MaxMSP for a realtime demo of my interface overlaying the vital info needed for each application. I will continue to look into this to see how viable it would be.
