A lot has changed since my last post. And quite a while its' been. Currently almost 7months into my placement I am just over halfway through my time here at Clearswift.
As a 'Digital Marketing Intern' my roles include graphic design, web development, social networking, PR, campaign work. So far it's all going well and I have learnt so much in such a small amount of time. Like the fact coffee is better with caramel, CMS systems were never made with design in mind and it is possible to accidently put a whole corporate website into the trash bin (windows7 crashed while I was dragging sub assets to the bin, or so I thought).
The 9til5 life isn't too bad. I have already had a two-week surf trip out of it. You meet some interesting people to say the least, and networking is great.
Starting the job is quite an exciting yet daunting thing. For me I was thrown in the deep end, just about to hit a big product release but fortunately I was able to get hold of the ropes and start to swim. Overtime I managed to learn the swing of things and got first hand experience that in the corporate world, nothing ever happens on time and when stuff goes wrong, its always at the worse time. Some would call that sods law, but I think its safe to just call it real life. But in a nutshell that is what the placement is about, us students getting a preview of everything going tits up, before we graduate so we go into the real world prepared. Mentally and physically in some cases.
What else have I learnt? Well I have learnt (if saved in the best possible way) pdf's can be taken apart in illustrator. Genius. And among various corporate design workings I have learnt how businesses adapt to modern trends, with a particular focus on social media, which is becoming key in the modern workplace.
Also I have started to use email signatures... says it all really, I should have told you at the start, it would have saved you having to read all that!
It's a great job and I actually look forward to work everyday, which I guess is something not everyone can say. Lets hope the rest of my time here is just as good. And to be honest, I think it will be!
