Now the site has been studied long and hard the final finishing touches have been completed to our site presentation which we will present tomorrow morning. To our peers and lecturer who will all mark us...(!)To start with we chose this site as it had great views of the coast, along with the opportunity to turn around and gain a watchful eye over the city of Plymouth.
The Hoe (Promenade) is an iconic symbol for diversity in Plymouth, varying from the hustle and bustle of the city centre to the more rural environments of the coastal regions.
To find out more about what sort of people visited the Hoe and how when they were active in the environment We decided to find out who the site was attracting at varying times in the day we took six 10 minute recordings per day with a gap of 4 hours between each one.
These readings were taken on a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 0000hrs, 0400hrs, 0800hrs, 1200hrs, 1600hrs, and 2000hrs. We chose these days so they could hopefully give us a varied load of results as for example Sunday is traditionally 'a day of rest' or in modern terms 'lazy sunday'.
The main reasons for the majority of people visiting the Hoe includes:
The Lighthouse - To look around as a tourist attraction and to see better views
War Memorials - To remember the dead and learn about the wars
Boat/Ship Watching - If your into that
Socializing - As it is a massive space with benches and green grass
Fireworks - Which gets very busy
Going for a runAgain some people just like to sit and enjoy the view whilst others as previously stated like to walk their dogs, Taking the Family out, Perusing their hobbies, Exercising, Reading, Taking photographs ......and of course studying the site.
We also did a BI - POLAR SURVEY which is used to assess the aesthetic quality of the environment. It is shown below.
