When I originally pitched this idea to Vlad, he mentioned trying the idea of using a 3rd person view. I had a first person view in my head to start with, but I thought it was interesting so I decided to try it out. This video is the same resolution and size as it would be on the device, I am making the videos optimised for the iPhone screen size. The quality is not brilliant, but this is because the videos need to be small enough to play over a 3G network. (Make sure Scaling is OFF when viewing test video)
I have sped up the playback of the first person shot by stretching it by 5% in AE, and the 3rd person shot by 10%. I have done it this way because the first person shot was filmed at a 'brisk walk speed' whereas the 3rd person was a moderate jog speed. Therefore the first person shot needed to be sped up more.
There is an issue of juddering. But I am using a 'glide cam' so the camera is as smooth as it can be. Unfortunately I can't use AE to smooth the video either as I need a constant reference point - and when the footage is moving around a significant area this isn't possible! I will continue to edit the footage in AE to hopefully smooth the footage a bit more. Creating a time-lapse of the journey along the route could possibly be another option.
