“We are going to make a prototype device to find out if someone is in love” - Odd start to the workshop I thought, but this was a task even our lecturer knew would be questionable. It was just to get us thinking…
Without getting too philosophical we were working about the area where things are only created because we invented a machine that produced it. An example given was blood pressure - you put the air bag around your arm, then squeeze the pump till you cant feel your pulse in your wrist, then you time the amount of time it takes for the blood to flow back so you will feel the pulse again. Any medical people out there I know that may not be 100% correct, but you get the idea. Enough about that, we are trying to find out if someone is in love!!!
So we were given a video camera and we linked it up to processing using a supplied script, to use it as a webcam. We then focused on Ollie’s eye and asked him a few questions such as his name, and where he is from to see his eyes normally. Then we asked him if he missed his girlfriend to which his pupils dilated (at 00.02). I didn’t think it would work as well but it did - amazed!
Next week we will continue on this, it was more of a tester this week. Should be good, as it will be a collaborative project with the rest of the group so we can add everything we learnt to do this week!
